The “Reimagined Spaces” series by Sol Cake.

Taking previous work and reimagining the conceptual development and vision for the space, Sol Cake Interior Design Studio is elevating and renewing previous projects. House Levendale is one of those close to my heart.

This gorgeous Johannesburg home was designed as a deeply atmospheric retreat — balancing contemporary luxury with warmth, tactility and emotional softness. A palette of rich walnut timbers, natural stone, brushed brass, textured plaster and layered textiles creates interiors that feel grounded and expressive. Throughout the home, soft neutral hues are contrasted with deeper earthy tones and organic forms, allowing each space to feel visually soothing.

With a contrast between smooth and textured surfaces, with striped couches, veiny marble, raw stone & concrete, puffy mustard boucle, different shades of timber, rattan, the smell of leather… A real melting melt pot of sensory delight.

Natural light plays a central role in the experience of the home, filtering through expansive glazing and skylights to animate surfaces and cast shifting shadows across textured materials throughout the day. The design language moves fluidly between moments of intimacy and openness — from the serene, spa-like bathrooms and softly layered bedroom suites to the dramatic double-volume living spaces and refined but comfortable entertainment areas.

Every detail was considered to enhance both atmosphere and functionality, resulting in a home that feels elegant without being excessive — sophisticated, restorative and liveable. The overall approach prioritised sensory comfort, spatial flow and timeless materiality, creating spaces that support both quiet retreat and contemporary family living. Just too gorgeous.
